A story was told that many tribes would gather when it was the right season for the blooming of the bunya nut. It was said that they came from as far north as
Rockhampton, and as far south as Coffs Harbour. All meeting at a place near the Glasshouse Mountains, to participate in collecting bunya nuts and to partiicpate in
cultural ceremonies – this gathering took place over thousands of years.
The painting depicts the welcoming of people from all directions – through song (welcome and farewell song) and dance (Waka Waka/Gubi Gubi).
